Thanksgiving in Boston, 2010

Thanksgiving is that day, as another blogger, put it that “Everyone is a food blogger!” I spent a night last week planning out our Thanksgiving menu with my mother and then put it up on the chalkboard wall.  I will be posting the full recipes to many of the items you see below throughout the week.

I made an apple & a blueberry pie for breakfast on Thanksgiving.  There is no better way to start a full day of eating than with homemade pies.

We started eating around noon with a few starters.  The first of which were my interpretation of something I had out at a restaurant a few weeks ago.  Panko covered caramelized pearl onions with a zesty dipping sauce.  I think this might be my new favorite party appetizer.

I did a test run of these stuffed artichokes about a week ago with a really small artichoke and quickly added it to our starter list for Thanksgiving.  The freshly grated Pecorino Romano cheese was delicious with the fresh artichokes.

The final starter was a small bowl of french onion soup topped with a slice of french baguette & thick cut swiss cheese.

We washed all the starters down with a Satsuma Vodka-tini.  It included pureed cranberries and satsuma tangerines.

We set the table simply & took a lot of inspiration from Ina Garten, one of my faves.

My least favorite part of the meal was the Lemon & Thyme potato gratin.  I think it would have benefited from some cheese possibly.  I’ll have to reexamine that recipe.

The turkey was covered in a simple butter, salt, pepper, & thyme rub.  I also put the butter mixture under the skin with two slices of tangerines.  Inside the turkey was shallots, rosemary, lemons, and tangerines.

The maple glazed carrots & parsnips were one of my favorite parts of the meal.  I am definitely incorporating this into the regular rotation of veggies for normal dinner.

We also had stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, & peas (which I didn’t eat because I hate them).

Beverages included Champagne & Strawberries and more Satsuma Martinis!

I made a chocolate ganache tart that I have been eating small slices from all day today.

Every year I make Pumpkin Creme Brulee and it is the best way to complete a full day of eating!  Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
