FAQs

What would you say your style of cooking is?

Meg: Hmm I think I’d describe it as cross-cultural comfort food, for lack of a better phrase.  I love making things that remind me of my family or being a little kid, but I also love making stuff my Puerto Rican boyfriend’s grandma made for him when he was young.  I guess that’s the best way to put it.  I also love carbs and dairy.

Steven: I think my style of cooking varies, but I tend to cook mostly homestyle foods, with a focus on Italian.  I also like a challenge in the kitchen and never back down from trying something once, even if I fail miserably.

What is your favorite food?

Meg: Oh man, I love breakfast food, and right now I’m obsessed with making Eggs in a Basket with fresh eggs we get from Justin’s bandmate.  There’s something really fun about breaking the yolk and already having toast to soak it up.

Steven: Pizza. hands down.  Followed closely by Eggs Benedict.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

Meg: My mom has always said “the best meal is the one you don’t have to make or clean up after yourself”, but I think the best meal I’ve had was at Babbo in NYC.  Or maybe Jake’s in Portland.  I dunno, I don’t think I can pick right now - but my dream is to have dinner at The French Laundry - now THAT would be the best meal ever.

Steven: It’s so hard to narrow down my best meal.  Pizza Regina in the North End of Boston started my love of pizza.  When I was younger I used to go there with my family, wait in the line that wrapped around the corner, and then squeeze into their tiny restaurant, and eat the delicious brick oven pizza.

What’s your favorite fast food?

Meg: Oh god.  This is a hard one… maybe Shake Shack?  Although that’s sometimes not as fast as you’d like it to be.  The boiled crabs you can get on the San Francisco waterfront are also really good.  The thing about Portland is that there is a HUGE foot cart culture here, so I’m sure there’s something absolutely delicious around here that’s fast and not your typical “fast food”… I definitely want to try out more.

Steven: This is a hard one.  I have no shame in admitting that I love fast food, in moderation of course.  Wendy’s & McDonalds constantly tug at my heart strings, but now that Sonic is opened in Massachusetts there is a new challenger for my love.

What are some of your favorite recipes?

Meg: One of my tried and true standbys is Pasta e Fagioli - pretty much everything you need to make it is likely already in your pantry and you can leave it simmering all day on the stove.  Its a great cold weather dish.  I also make a mean Colcannon, which is a nod to my Irish heritage - also another good cold day food.

Steven: My favorite is Pumpkin Creme Brulee.  I usually only make it once a year, for Thanksgiving dessert.  One of my other favorites is what my aunt calls “Steven’s Favorite Chicken” and what I call “Paulette’s Chicken”.  I’ll make it soon and post it here.

What kind of camera do you use to take your photos?

Meg: I use my boyfriend’s Nikon D40 DSLR with an 18-55 mm lens to take photos of the food I make at home.  A lot of the time my purse won’t hold a giant camera like that, so if we go somewhere fancy I use my own FujiFilm FinePix F47fd point-and-shoot.

Steven: I use a Canon Rebel XSi with an 18-55 mm lens.  I am dying to get an even better lens. Santa are you listening?
